Clearing a home when moving to a care home
When a parent moves to a care home, a whole life has to fit into one room. We clear what stays behind: carefully, and only when you are ready.

The situation
An admission date often comes sooner than expected. The new room is small, the house is full, and the choices are hard: what goes along, what stays in the family, what can go?
Those choices are for you and your family. The heavy work after that is for us.
What we do
You point out what goes to the care home or is kept; we set those pieces safely aside. We clear everything else, in one go or in stages, whatever suits you.
We work discreetly, with respect for the neighbours, and follow our protocol here as well: documents, photographs and valuables are never simply taken away. If the home is to be sold or rented afterwards, we hand it over broom-clean.
What is included
- Free home visit with no obligation, followed by a fixed price on paper
- What goes along or stays in the family, we set aside safely
- Complete clearance, including garage and garden shed, in one go or in stages
- Sorting according to our protocol for valuables and documents
- Proper disposal through the recycling centre or a licensed waste processor
- Handed over broom-clean: swept, empty and ready for the handover
Option: on request we take the chosen items to the new room. We discuss this during the home visit; it is then included in the fixed price.
What we do not do
- Material containing asbestos (corrugated sheets, pipe insulation): this needs a specialised company
- Chemical and small hazardous waste: paint, solvents, fuels, gas bottles
- Ammunition, weapons and medical waste
We never leave you alone with these: during the home visit we point you to the right channel.
Three tips before you start
-
Ask for the room size
A room in a care home is small. Ask for its dimensions and what is already there, such as a bed or a wardrobe. Then you know what fits.
-
Choose familiar pieces
Their own chair, a lamp, photos on the wall: familiar belongings help to make the new room feel like home.
-
No rush after the move
You do not have to decide everything at once. We can work in stages, or wait until the family has chosen in peace.
Your belongings stay in trusted hands
What happens to money, jewellery, documents and photos that we find? We answer that question in advance, in writing.
